Diversity and Intelligence in Multi-robot Teams
نویسنده
چکیده
This research proposes new tools for investigation of behavioral diversity in multi-robot systems and a significant body of results using these tools in simulated and real mobile robot experiments. The experiments specifically describe a framework of defining behavior-based strategies for multi-robot tasks as robot foraging, robot soccer and robot formation. The research focuses specifically on motor schema-based multirobot systems, which are an important example of behavior-based control..

Genotypic versus Behavioural Diversity for Teams of Programs under the 4-v-3 Keepaway Soccer Task
Keepaway soccer is a challenging robot control task that has been widely used as a benchmark for evaluating multi-agent learning systems. The majority of research in this domain has been from the perspective of reinforcement learning (function approximation) and neuroevolution. One of the challenges under multi-agent tasks such as keepaway is to formulate effective mechanisms for diversity main...
متن کاملMobile Agents: A Ubiquitous Multi-Agent System for Human-Robotic Planetary Exploration Integration of Systems and Human Sciences
Future human planetary exploration creates challenges both for technology and mission management. Ubiquitous computing principles and applied artificial intelligence are promising approaches in making planetary surface missions safer and more effective. Architectures which integrate both approaches and facilitate the interaction and collaboration between astronauts, robots, systems, and remote ...
متن کاملSocial Entropy: a New Metric for Learning Multi-robot Teams
As robotics research expands into multiagent tasks and learning, investigators need new tools for evaluating the artiicial robot societies they study. Is it enough, for example, just to say a team is \hetero-geneous?" Perhaps heterogeneity is more properly viewed on a sliding scale. To address these issues this paper presents new metrics for learning robot teams. The metrics evaluate diversity ...
متن کاملNavigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network
Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...
متن کاملInterface for Monitoring and Interacting with Multi-Terrain Robot Teams
Previous research on human-robot interfaces has been mainly concerned with interaction between one person and one robot or software agent. Yet, there are many scenarios in which multiple human-multiple robot interactions are possible, such as with teams of rescue robots, combat robot teams, or surveillance robots. Our work seeks to turn a fastpaced interactive multi-agent system (Gamebots) into...
